Teresa Lanza, a pediatrician, shares her view and experience in healthcare

A pediatrician, Teresa Lanza, treats patients, from newborns to 18 years old, admitted to intensive care. Teresa is responsible for improving her patients’ well-being, including correcting their position, carefully managing any complications, administering drugs, and explaining the evolutionary process of their condition to their relatives.

Teresa believes clear communication is paramount in accurately diagnosing her patients to learn about patients living environments and medical histories. Moreover, Teresa emphasizes the importance of staying current with medical innovation. She keeps herself up to date by reading medical research.

The changes she wants to see in future health care include “improving education regarding health to the public and having qualified personnel be in charge of improving the healthcare system.”

Teresa feels most rewarded when her effort and dedication successfully cure patients. However, she gets frustrated when few health care professionals can offer help when her patients are in critical states. In addition, she wants to narrow the gap between the quality of hospitals in poor and affluent neighborhoods.

Lastly, she shares advice for medical students:

[Medicine] is an excellent career choice. It’s a career that requires [a significant amount of] commitment. She stresses that students should be committed, responsible, and willing to learn constantly.
